DaimlerChrysler Outfits Advanced Lab with QNX Software Suite

QNX will provide full suite of software design tools, operating systems, and advanced technology kits to DaimlerChrysler's research facility.

OTTAWA, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- QNX Software Systems, the leading supplier of realtime operating systems (RTOS) for in-car telematics and infotainment applications, announced today that DaimlerChrysler will outfit their advanced research laboratories in the US and Germany with advanced embedded software from QNX. DaimlerChrysler is the first company to take advantage of the QNX OEM Innovation Labs (OIL) Program, where automakers can obtain early access to QNX technologies for their research groups.
DaimlerChrysler will use a variety of automotive-grade software from QNX, including the full suite of embedded development tools, the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) operating system, a variety of middleware and value added components such as technology development kits, board support packages, and source code. DaimlerChrysler will also receive early access to emerging and evolving technology areas, including power management, multimedia, graphics, secure partitioning, and networking.

"The QNX OEM Innovation Labs Program is designed exclusively to assist automakers with research planning and development by providing them with cutting-edge software based upon industry-wide standards," said Dave Curley, vice president of marketing at QNX Software Systems. "QNX's standards-based, scalable platform means that an automaker's concept will stand the test of time as designs move from idea to development and deployment."

As a member of the QNX OIL Program, DaimlerChrysler will also tap into QNX Software System's world-class support and services -- including a dedicated technical account manager, product documentation, and access to training services.

In-car Infotainment and the OIL Program

Known as the software platform "provider of choice" for automotive Tier One suppliers for in-car computing designs, QNX Software Systems created the QNX OIL Program to provide the same advanced technologies to automakers directly. Today, more than 140 car models worldwide contain QNX software to power an array of telematics and infotainment products -- everything from hands-free cell phone kits to high-end multimedia and navigation systems.
